India Tomkies Flash is a detail-focussed, sustainably-minded womenswear designer specialising in woven textiles. She enjoys working with finer, luxury yarns such as silks & other plant based fibres including bamboo & nettle. India works in a conceptual way, constructing a narrative which I feel gives my designs purpose. Her Graduate collection focuses on celebrating the female form using conceal and reveal elements & was heavily informed by the muse she created. She explored different weights & transparencies of fabrics & panels in order to expose and play with certain areas of the female form.
‘The girl who went through it’ is a story of a girl feeling trapped & worn down by her own existence. Suppressing her true identity, blending into the background; unimportant. She finds her freedom through letting go of personal restraints & release. The resulting collection expresses a feeling of weightlessness, freedom; finally emerging from the longstanding wear of her existence.
