Nurturing talent and providing opportunities to go on to further education in creative industries

Fashion & Business Saturday Club

The BFC is a long-term partner of the National Saturday Club (NSC). The NSC is a charity that gives young people across the UK the opportunity to study a subject they love for free at their local university, college or cultural institution. Over the past 13 years, more than 12,000 13–16-year-olds have taken part. With a particular focus on engaging young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented communities, the model works to develop young people’s skills, nurture their talents, encourage their creativity, and support their understanding of future career pathways. Watch a short film about NSC and visit the website to learn more.

As part of this partnership, the BFC organises an industry Masterclass for each of the Fashion&Business Clubs. Masterclasses take place in the Spring Term and connect young people with industry experts, offering insight into the fashion industry, showcasing the various career opportunities available with a joyful and experimental activity during the session. For many young people, their Masterclass experience is the moment they realise that their passions and interests have the potential to develop into fulfilling and rewarding careers.  Learn more on the Fashion&Business Saturday Club supported by the BFC here.

The 2022/23 programme of Masterclasses included sessions with Alexander McQueen, Manolo Blahnik, DAZED, ELV Denim, Richard Malone. Past Masterclasses were hosted by GQ, Royal Opera House, Nike, ASOS, WGSN, Butler Archive, i-D Magazine, Rottingdean Bazaar, Apple, and Helen Kirkum.
