DESIGNER NAME: Tomasz Donocik
BACKGROUND: Tomasz was born in Poland, grew up in Austria and moved to the UK to study. He studied at Central Saint Martins and completed his Masters at the Royal Academy of Art. After graduating he worked for internationally-renowned jeweller Stephen Webster.
SIGNATURES: “I use the motif of the star quite often but I think it's my repetition of forms that is my signature. Leather, quilting and studding with silver or precious stones is a recurring method that I use. The bracelets in particular use studding and stars in a pattern to create a dramatic look.”
TRADEMARK PIECE: “This tends to change as I design more pieces. To start with, it was my Chesterfield bangle, then the star bracelets. As the collections evolve and new people are introduced to my brand it becomes hard to pinpoint one particular piece that is a trademark. The jewellery is edgy and appeals to a diverse range of people, some people like the leather pieces and for others, it's diamonds all the way!”
IDEAL CLIENT: “Someone who likes sophisticated fashion and jewellery. They are bold and appreciate craftsmanship and originality in design. My clients can vary from young and edgy to established and elegant.”
THE COLLECTION: “The latest collection revisits the original design of the star wraparound bracelets. These have always been my best seller and with the increase of diamond bracelets, it seemed natural to transform the stars into diamond encrusted gold stars! They are definitely my favourite right now. Rock Vault is also the platform through which I will be unveiling my new designs in palladium. I won’t give too much away but they are inspired by modern architecture and are very different from my previous collections!”
CULTURAL INFLUENCES: “I take a lot in from my surroundings and especially like architecture. London is such an eclectic mix; you can't help but be inspired and surprised on a daily basis. I enjoy visiting exhibitions such as that by Tim Walker, his mix of the fun and silly with the slightly macabre is inspiring!”
PLANS FOR 2013: “The brand is definitely expanding and evolving, last year we garnered a lot of new stockists and this year is going to be bigger and better!”
