The British Fashion Council was ‘Celebrating 25 Years of British Fashion’ throughout 2009: 25 Years of the British Fashion Council, 25 Years of London Fashion Week and 25 Years of the British Fashion Awards. During the year we focused on developing a legacy of support for British designers. The BFC also partners with organizations and individuals with the industry to celebrate British fashion.
Many of our 25 year legacy initiatives are already underway. The website was developed throughout the year to become an industry portal, a reference and a resource for designers and aspiring designers. We established the
BFC Vogue Designer Fashion Fund as a charitable trust which will support eligible designers to achieve substantial growth. The report on the ‘Value of Fashion’ defined the depth of the fashion industry and highlighted the economic and cultural impact that it has internationally and on UK Plc.
Developing designer support for emerging talents has been a primary focus over the last 25 years. We continue to promote, support and nurture an extraordinary list of designers who have made a mark on our industry. The BFC aimed to name and recognise all of these people in some way throughout 2009.
