The UK fashion industry is worth £21 billion to the UK economy and makes a vital contribution to the global reputation of Great Britain as a leader in creative excellence. Much more can be done to drive the sector forward and contribute to much needed growth for the UK economy.

Members of Parliament from all political parties, researchers, designers and representatives from key government organisations attended the first APPG event at London Fashion Week.

Speakers included Simon Ward, Chief Operating Officer of the BFC and Damian Collins MP, Chair of the APPG, who highlighted the strength of the British fashion industry to the UK economy and focused on the key areas of exports, jobs and skills sector, vital to the continuing sustainability of the industry.

“The fashion and textile industry is playing an important role in supporting economic growth and UK exports. British fashion week is now rightly acknowledged as world leading and the APPG was delighted to offer its support as well as to meet designers and manufacturers who were exhibiting” - Damian Collins, Chair of the APPG for Fashion and Textiles.

“This is the first APPG event hosted at London Fashion Week and it provides a key opportunity for both politicians and members of the fashion industry to come together under one roof to disucss key issues relevant to the industry. The BFC is committed to its continuing engagement with politicians and we’d like to thank Damian and the APPG for their on-going support in Parliament” - Simon Ward, COO of the British Fashion Council
The APPG event follows on from the inaugural event that took place at Burberry Headquarters in April 2011 and the launch of the ‘Future of Fashion – Strategic Considerations for Growth’ Report in February 2012.
