Creative Pattern Cutting

The British Fashion Council will host a Creative Pattern Cutting Seminar on 12th April 2013 at Somerset House.

The main aim is to highlight the importance of technical skills involved in creative pattern cutting at graduate level and demonstrate ways of developing new and innovative ideas for design and cut, therefore to improve design development. It also will show the opportunities and excitement for creative career paths in this area.

Five inspirational speakers who will demonstrate the many easily achievable ways the skill can be approached across a range of garment types. The seminar is designed to find a method that every attendee will find useful as a core part of their design process.

The speakers INCLUDE:

Tom Mahon – English Cut Bespoke, Savile Row. His unique art of tailoring pattern cutting – the jacket, the trouser.

Janice Mee – The construction of a fitted bra and developments from it.

Anette Fischer – The use of drape and the Couture dress, inspired by Dior.

Juliana Sissons – Geometric cutting with a 3D approach using sculptural techniques.

Arena Page – A great example of a creative pattern cutting graduate from Huddersfield University, whose career path is creative pattern cutting for top international design, is demonstrating her approach and techniques.

Alongside these 5 demonstrators Julian Roberts and Shingo Sato have created a short film demonstrating Subtraction Cutting Vs Transformational Reconstruction techniques.
