NEWGEN – September 2016 Application


NEWGEN’s mission is to support the growth of original new collections which have the potential to make a mark on the international scene. Judging is undertaken voluntarily by a panel of Britain’s top editors, buyers and opinion formers who compare entrants against the standards of excellence attained by former winners. Those selected will receive sponsorship and mentoring tailored to the scale and positioning of their products and businesses. Only those willing to undertake the full scale of commitment required should apply. We recommend that you research previous winners and the selection process of NEWGEN on our website:

We only encourage those to apply who are ready to do so. Should you be invited to an interview you will be asked for research and knowledge of your markets and are expected to have a good understanding of these areas.

  • Applicants should be under 3 years in business when they first apply
  • Application should have at least two stockists (can include online, but not own website)
  • Applicant’s studio and business should be based in the United Kingdom.
  • The collection should consist of full ready-to-wear womenswear or accessories and not consist of menswear or bridal wear.
  • Designers must apply online via the application form.
  • Applicants can apply up to 3 times, if unsuccessful
  • Successful applicants can receive up to 6 seasons of support, any further support is awarded on a case by case basis 
  • If you have a menswear collection you must apply for NEWGEN MEN support


  • Design duos are permitted to enter
  • No samples, press material or look-books should be submitted unless requested
  • Applicants are required to provide:
    - A 500 word summary of how you see your business moving forward over the next 2 years, details of your brand identity and why you should receive the sponsorship award

    - 2 industry based references to complete your application form - we suggest that a buyer, journalist, opinion former, professor or significant mentor are relevant referees. Please note however that you do not need a written reference from these people

    - A full list of UK and international stockists

  • Equal opportunities section must be completed, but can be anonymous, this will be kept and will not affect your entry
  • If the applicants have been rejected more than 3 times, they are no longer eligible to apply
    • Once you have completed your application form online, this will be reviewed and you will be notified by email whether your application has been accepted
    • Guidance notes for submitting samples will be included in your application confirmation email. Please do not submit samples unless you are requested to

    • If you are asked to submit samples, you will need to submit 6 pieces from your autumn/winter 2016 collection in mid-April
    • If you are in the final short listed group to be interviewed by our selection panel this will take place in mid-May
